WNS Interview Questions and Answers (2026)

The WNS interview process for process associate and operations roles starts with a walk-in or online registration on WNS’s SmartRecruiters page, followed by interviews for the profile you are placed in: voice, non-voice, chat, blended, AML, KYC or mortgage. WNS postings say what they test: spoken and written English, listening, computer skills, customer service knowledge, and logical and analytical problem solving. Analyst and actuarial roles add Excel, SPSS, SQL or domain questions taken from the posting.

WNS does not publish a fixed number of rounds. Candidate answers fill the gap: a November 2023 Indeed answer lists the fresher rounds as aptitude, an operations round, a manager round and an HR round, and a 2017 Indeed answer describes the same four steps with a senior HR round in place of operations. Interview Query’s WNS analyst guide reports 2-3 rounds: an aptitude test, sometimes a written communication test, then behavioral and scenario questions. Confirm the order with the recruiter at the venue.

Analyst roles skip the walk-in and run through a posting, then an interview on the tools and domain the posting names.

WNS interview questions with answers

Q: What is Average Handling Time (AHT) and how is it calculated?

AHT is the average time spent on one customer contact from start to finish. For calls it is (total talk time + total hold time + total after-call work time) divided by the number of calls handled. Lower AHT means more calls per hour, but cutting it by rushing hurts quality and first-call resolution, so say you would reduce it by knowing the process and tools well, not by ending calls early.

Q: What is the difference between KYC and AML?

KYC (Know Your Customer) is verifying who a customer is when they open an account and keeping that information current, using identity and address documents and risk ratings. AML (Anti-Money Laundering) is the wider set of controls to detect and report money laundering, including transaction monitoring and suspicious activity reports. KYC is one part of an AML program.

Q: What is a three-way match in accounts payable?

Before paying an invoice, AP matches three documents: the purchase order (what was ordered and at what price), the goods receipt note (what was actually received), and the supplier invoice (what is being billed). If quantities and prices agree within tolerance, the invoice is approved; if not, it is put on hold and the mismatch is raised with purchasing or the supplier.

Q: What is the difference between VLOOKUP and XLOOKUP?

VLOOKUP searches the first column of a range and returns a value from a column to its right by column number, defaults to approximate match unless you set the last argument to FALSE, and breaks if columns are inserted. XLOOKUP takes separate lookup and return ranges, can look left, defaults to exact match, and has a built-in value for not found. INDEX with MATCH does the same job in older Excel versions.

Q: What is the difference between an INNER JOIN and a LEFT JOIN?

An INNER JOIN returns only rows that have a match in both tables. A LEFT JOIN returns every row from the left table and fills the right table’s columns with NULL when there is no match. To find customers with no orders, LEFT JOIN customers to orders and filter where the order id IS NULL.

Q: How do you read a cross-tab with a chi-square test?

A cross-tab counts responses for two categorical variables, such as region by brand preference. The chi-square test compares those counts with the counts you would expect if the variables were independent. A p-value below the chosen level, often 0.05, means the difference is unlikely to be chance. Check that expected counts per cell are not too small (a common rule is at least 5) before trusting the result.

WNS interview questions by role

Role Questions to prepare
Process associate (voice, chat, blended) Tell me about yourself; why WNS; night or US shift comfort; handling an angry customer; what AHT and quality score mean; a short read-aloud or listening exercise
KYC / AML associate What KYC and AML mean; documents used to verify identity; a red flag in a transaction; accuracy under volume
Accounts payable / F&A Three-way match; invoice processing steps; accruals; root cause of a payment error
Analyst (research, analytics) VLOOKUP or XLOOKUP; pivot tables; SQL joins; cross-tabs and significance tests; cleaning messy survey data
Actuarial Valuation basics; surrender values; exams cleared; Prophet or MG-ALFA experience

WNS hiring process for process associates

WNS’s 2026 Associate/Senior Associate - Operations posting in Airoli, Navi Mumbai describes an inbound customer role: answering calls and resolving customer queries. It accepts graduate freshers, or HSC holders with at least six months of experience, and asks for:

  • Proficiency in computer applications
  • Knowledge of customer service practices
  • Strong listening, verbal and written communication
  • Logical, analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Attention to detail and accuracy

The same posting lists the targets the job is measured on: quality, Average Handling Time (AHT), Average Speed of Answer (ASA), answer rate, and production and utilization targets. Interviewers for these roles check whether you understand those terms, so learn them before the interview.

WNS walk-in interview: Bengaluru and Gurgaon

WNS runs walk-ins through registration forms on its SmartRecruiters career page. In October 2026 two were live:

  • Bangalore Walkins: RMZ Centennial, Brookefield, Whitefield, Bengaluru.
  • Gurgaon Walk-In CRF: Blocks A2 and A3, 10th floor, Gurgaon.

Both forms list the same profiles (voice, non-voice, chat, blended, AML, KYC and mortgage) and ask for graduates or undergraduates. Neither lists dates, timings, documents or rounds. Before you go, carry a printed resume, a government ID and your education certificates, and ask the recruiter which profile you are being considered for, since a voice process interview checks spoken English while a KYC or AML interview checks attention to detail and basic finance knowledge.

WNS interview for analyst and specialist roles

Analyst postings are specific about tools. A Senior Analyst - Market Research (Research and Analytics) posting in Bengaluru required SPSS and strong Excel, Word and PowerPoint, with E-tabs, SQL and Tableau as a plus, and listed cross-tabulations, statistical tests, frequency tables and data cleaning as daily work on a rotational shift. A Senior Analyst - Actuarial (UK Life Insurance) posting in Gurgaon asked for 2-4 years in life insurance or variable annuities, three actuarial exams preferred, and tools such as Prophet and MG-ALFA, working from office on UK shifts. A Lead Associate - Transactional Quality (Accounts Payable) posting in Gurgaon asked for a B.Com or MBA in finance and a 3:30 pm to 12:30 am US shift.

Expect the technical interview to follow the posting’s tool list closely.

WNS and Capgemini

Capgemini agreed to acquire WNS on July 7, 2025, valuing it at about $3.3 billion. WNS was delisted from the New York Stock Exchange in October 2025 and its careers pages now say “part of Capgemini.” WNS reports more than 66,000 employees, 65 delivery centers and 700+ clients. Hiring still runs through WNS’s own SmartRecruiters page, and some older postings still carry the old NYSE line.

A one-week WNS prep plan

  1. Days 1-2: Practice a 60-second introduction in English and record it. Learn AHT, ASA, quality score and first-call resolution.
  2. Days 3-4: Prepare answers on shifts, handling an angry customer and why WNS. Read your profile’s basics (KYC, AML, AP, mortgage).
  3. Days 5-6: Analyst candidates practice Excel lookups, pivots and two SQL joins; voice candidates do mock calls with a friend.
  4. Day 7: Check the walk-in address and timing, print your resume and carry ID and certificates.

WNS pay in India

WNS India postings do not show salaries. PayScale lists an average base salary of about Rs 5.6 lakh a year for WNS India, with an average bonus of about Rs 95,000, from 68 reports updated in March 2026. That average covers all levels; fresher process associate offers are lower, and US-shift roles often add shift allowances, so ask the recruiter for the full breakup.
