The United Airlines flight attendant interview process has five scored steps: an application with a resume, an online talent assessment, a pre-recorded video interview, a 30-minute live virtual interview with Talent Acquisition, and an in-person interview in Houston with group and one-on-one assessments, followed by a Conditional Training Offer. The questions are STAR-style behavioral prompts about flexibility, multitasking, customer service, coworkers and situations you handled well or badly. Ramp agents and airport agents take an assessment and a virtual interview with similar STAR questions plus safety; interns and corporate hires get a phone screen and behavioral panels.
United posts flight attendant openings a few times a year and they close quickly, so most candidates watch the careers site and apply the day a posting opens.

United Airlines flight attendant hiring process
United’s Path to Inflight page lists these steps:
- Application. Apply while a posting is open and upload a resume; United says you will not move forward without one. Language-qualified roles (for example German, Greek, Dutch, Hebrew and Italian postings in 2026) add a fluency test.
- Talent assessment. An online assessment for everyone who meets the minimum requirements.
- Flyer Friendly Q&A (optional). A session with Inflight Recruiting to ask about the job. United says skipping it does not count against you. One 2026 Kentucky candidate described it as a group Q&A with a base supervisor.
- Pre-recorded interview. A one-way video. A September 2026 candidate reported four yes-or-no questions, three recorded questions and a final question on passport expiration. Another said a question appears, you get a short time to think, then recording starts.
- Live virtual interview. About 30 minutes with a member of Talent Acquisition. United’s own tip is to answer with situation, task, action and result. A 2026 candidate had five or six questions on good and bad situations with customers and coworkers.
- In-person interview in Houston. Group and one-on-one assessments with flight attendant recruiters. United provides a flight voucher for candidates outside Houston, and allows only two in-person attempts in five years.
- Conditional Training Offer. Contingent on DOT background checks, drug screening, fingerprinting and vision and hearing tests. You become a United employee only after graduating from training.
Glassdoor users rate the flight attendant interview 2.9 out of 5, with 76% positive experiences and an average of 25 days to hire.

United flight attendant interview questions with sample answers
Q: Tell us about a specific time when you had to demonstrate flexibility on the job.
Reported as a 2026 pre-recorded question. Use STAR and make it about schedule or plan changes: “A coworker called out before a double wedding weekend. I swapped my day off, rebuilt the setup timeline with the other lead, and both events started on time.”
Q: Tell me about a time you had to multitask.
Asked on the pre-recorded interview in September 2026. Show how you prioritized: “At the front desk I had a line of five, a ringing phone and a guest locked out. I let the caller know I would call back in two minutes, checked in the guests who had keys ready, and sent the bellman with a key for the lockout.”
Q: Tell me about a customer situation that went well, and one that did not.
A September 2026 candidate said the live virtual interview asked about situations, both good and bad, with customers, coworkers and the work environment. For the bad one, own your part, say what you changed, and end with what happens now: “I now repeat the order back before I ring it in.”
Q: Tell me about a time you disagreed with a coworker.
Keep it calm and specific: what you disagreed about, how you raised it privately, and how the shift or task still got done. Recruiters in Houston also watch how you talk about other people, so avoid blame.
Q: When does your passport expire?
The last question on the 2026 pre-recorded interview. Have the exact date ready; United requires 12 months of validity when you apply.
More STAR answers are on the United Airlines behavioral interview questions page.
What the Houston face-to-face is like
United describes it as an immersive interview with group and one-on-one assessments. A May 2026 Portland candidate said most of their group did not reach the one-on-one: after the second group activity, six people were walked out and told to check spam for the result within five days. The same candidate saw a recruiter quietly taking notes during a break and felt the informal moments were being scored. An October 2026 hire went from the group portion to a one-on-one with a recruiter, then straight to background paperwork and fingerprinting.
United ramp agent and airport interviews
Glassdoor rates the ramp agent interview 2.4 out of 5 with an average of 32 days to hire. Reports describe a questionnaire or assessment, then a virtual interview with HR or a face-to-face, and drug testing. Questions are STAR format:
- Tell me about a time someone was not following safety protocols and how you handled it (Newark).
- A time you and a coworker did not see eye to eye (Los Angeles, October 2024).
- A time you dealt with a difficult customer (Chicago, March 2026; retakes were allowed).
- Teamwork situations and tell me about yourself in a 30-minute video interview (San Francisco).
United internships and corporate interviews
Glassdoor rates the intern interview 2.8 out of 5 with an average of 41 days to hire. Chicago interns in 2025-26 describe a phone screen, a behavioral interview with several team members and a shorter round with supervisors. Reported questions: why United, how your background fits the department (one candidate was asked how it aligned with the cargo division), how you stay organized, and one somewhat technical question at the end of a STAR-heavy interview.
How to prepare for a United Airlines interview
- Before applying: check your passport validity and blank pages, have a resume ready to upload, and sign up for United’s flight attendant alerts so you can apply the day a posting opens.
- Pre-recorded interview: prepare STAR stories on flexibility, multitasking, a proud moment and something you would do differently. Practice recording yourself with a short think time.
- Live virtual: expect five or six situational questions in 30 minutes, good and bad outcomes, customers and coworkers.
- Houston: be professional in every moment, including breaks and conversations with other candidates. Do not join in if someone criticizes the process or a past interviewer.
- Ramp: have a safety story ready, and be honest about physical work and shift availability.
