The Costco interview process for warehouse jobs is an online application, then usually two to three short behavioral interviews: one with a supervisor or department manager (often two people in the room), sometimes a panel, and a final one with the general manager or an assistant general manager. Questions cover why Costco, a difficult coworker, an urgent problem you solved, how you handle pressure and sudden changes, how you treat members, and whether you can work early stocking or evening and weekend shifts. Offers are followed by a drug test and background check, and Glassdoor lists an average of 14 days to hire for Front End Assistants.
Most new warehouse hires start part time. Costco’s careers site says most candidates are hired for entry-level roles such as front end assistant, food court, member service and merchandise stocking.

Costco interview process: what Costco says
Costco’s “Resources for Applying” page gives the official version:
- Apply online. You can apply to new locations about 12 weeks before they open; if a location is not listed, it is not yet accepting applications.
- Introduce yourself. “Each warehouse receives hundreds of applications.” After applying online, introduce yourself to a manager at the warehouse you want.
- Apply often. Locations hire year-round, not only for seasonal periods. Applications expire after 90 days, so reapply if you have not heard back.
- Expect busy hours. Be prepared to work nights and weekends; merchandise stocking happens in the early morning.
- Selection. Costco selects “based on transferable skills, prior experience and member service skills.”
Costco interview questions
Questions warehouse candidates reported on Glassdoor in 2025-26:
- Why did you choose Costco? (Front End Assistant, May 2026; San Jose, CA)
- Tell me about a time working with a difficult coworker. (Front End Assistant, May 2026)
- What was an urgent problem you had to face, and what was the result? (Front End Assistant, May 2026)
- How would you assess your ability to deal with sudden changes in workflow? (Front End Assistant, 2025)
- What would you do when dealing with a member? (Fairfield, CA, 2024)
- What do you do when under pressure? A situation came up; what is your reaction? (Kitchen staff, March 2025)
- How would you handle a problem with a coworker? What is your best quality, and one of your flaws? Is a 4 a.m. shift okay? (Morning stocker, June 2025)
The Interview Guys’ Costco guide adds: how would you handle an upset member, describe a time you went above and beyond for a customer, what would you do if you saw a coworker not following safety protocols, how would you handle a busy day with long lines, and what if a member wanted to return an item without a receipt. Sample answers are on the Costco interview questions and answers page.
Costco second interview and general manager interview
Most warehouse candidates meet the general manager, an assistant general manager or the warehouse manager in the last round. Reviewers describe it as a conversation rather than a test: a Fairfield, California Front End Assistant found the GM round “less intimidating” than the first, and a Garden Grove, California deli clerk was sent to the AGM the same day as the supervisor interview, then told to do a drug test and background check. A May 2026 reviewer noted that when two managers sit in the first interview, it can count as two rounds.
Costco interview tips
- Be on time. A May 2026 hire stressed punctuality: Costco has a three-minute grace period for clocking in, so lateness at the interview is noticed.
- Introduce yourself in person after applying, as Costco’s careers page suggests, since each warehouse receives hundreds of applications.
- Follow up. A Portland, Oregon Front End Assistant (2026) had to call and follow up several times to keep the process moving.
- Talk about members. Costco calls customers members; use the word and show you understand they pay for a membership.
- Say yes to the hours you can work. Costco postings ask for open availability, and stocking starts early.
What to wear to a Costco interview
Business casual, neat and well groomed (The Interview Guys). A suit is not needed for warehouse roles. Bring a resume; a 2026 reviewer advised having it handy along with questions for the interviewer.
Costco corporate and IT interviews
Costco’s IT teams sit in hubs in Issaquah, Washington; Dallas, Texas; and Schaumburg, Illinois, and its accounting teams in Issaquah. Costco says it fills most merchandising and corporate positions by promoting warehouse employees, and 87% of its general managers were promoted from within. Recent Glassdoor reports for office roles:
- IT Operations Analyst, Issaquah (2026). Three rounds: the hiring manager, a panel with the team, and a final conversation with the department director; mostly situational questions.
- Senior UI Developer (2026). After the hiring manager round, a bug-fix exercise and technical questions, then an onsite with live coding and technical architecture.
- Inventory Control Specialist, Seattle (2026). Two in-person behavioral interviews of an hour each, the second specific to the role.

Frequently asked questions about Costco interviews
What is the Costco interview process?
You apply online at careers.costco.com, then a warehouse contacts you for a phone screen or an in-person interview. Most warehouse candidates in 2025-26 describe two to three rounds: a first interview with one or two supervisors or a department manager, sometimes a panel, and a final interview with the general manager or an assistant general manager. Offers are followed by a drug test and background check. Glassdoor averages 14 days to hire for Front End Assistants.

Reported questions include why do you want to work at Costco, tell me about a time you worked with a difficult coworker, an urgent problem you faced and the result, how you deal with sudden changes in workflow, how you would deal with a member, what you do under pressure, and whether an early 4 a.m. shift is okay for stocking roles.
How many interviews does Costco have?
Usually two or three for warehouse jobs. What should I wear to a Costco interview?
Business casual and well groomed, according to The Interview Guys’ Costco guide. Be early: a May 2026 Front End Assistant stressed that Costco is time-sensitive, with a three-minute grace period for clocking in.
