PNC candidates in 2025-26 describe a short, mostly behavioral process: a HireVue recorded interview (about five questions, often with three games), a recruiter or supervisor call, and a live interview with a branch manager, hiring manager or panel. Technology Development Program candidates add a CodeVue coding test with easy string problems and a Superday of two short interviews. Most reports call the questions standard; the frequent complaint is slow communication after the last round.
Teller and branch candidates report cash handling, upset customers and why PNC as the core questions. Program and engineering candidates report feedback and teamwork questions plus a walk-through of their own code.
PNC interview process round by round
| Round | Duration | What it tests |
|---|---|---|
| HireVue | 15-30 min | Recorded behavioral answers, sometimes 3 games |
| Recruiter or supervisor call | 15-20 min | Availability, past jobs, interest in PNC |
| CodeVue (TDP only) | about 60 min | Easy coding, mostly string manipulation |
| Live interview | 30-60 min | Branch manager, hiring manager or panel; behavioral and role questions |
| Superday (programs) | two 25-min interviews | Behavioral plus CodeVue code review (early 2026) |
| Offer and background check | varies | Verbal offer, then email offer and screening appointment |
Durations come from candidate reports; PNC does not publish them.
PNC interview reports from 2023-2026
Each is one candidate’s account, paraphrased.
- Candidate, HireVue stage (September 2025, Glassdoor). Applied online. The HireVue had 5 questions and 3 games: a math task, a personality quiz and a pattern-matching exercise. Each question allowed only one attempt, and the questions were STAR-style behavioral prompts.
- Technology Development Program (early 2026, Glassdoor). Applied online; about four weeks overall. HireVue with 5 behavioral questions and 3 games, then a CodeVue with relatively easy questions that mostly needed string manipulation, then a Superday invite about 3 to 4 weeks later. The Superday was two 25-minute interviews that combined behavioral questions with going over the CodeVue code. The candidate called the behavioral questions basic and recommended the information session held the day before.
- Software engineer, United States (July 2026, PracHub). A recorded interview, then a recruiter who set up more time, a follow-up call, and a hiring manager interview with basic technical questions plus behavioral and technical discussion. The final was a Superday-style session with managers, friendly and low-stress. No offer, and the candidate heard little afterward.
- Candidate, Houston (December 2023, Glassdoor). HireVue with about a minute to prepare and 3 minutes to answer each question, with one re-record allowed.
- Teller candidates (Glassdoor, multiple years). A phone call about past jobs and why they left, then an in-person interview with the branch manager and a senior employee about customer service work and cash handling.
Detailed interview experiences
Experience 1: Technology Development Program, early 2026
Profile: Recent graduate applying online to PNC’s 12-month TDP.
HireVue: Five behavioral questions, for example a time you received feedback and how you used it, plus three short games.
CodeVue: Two easy problems built around string manipulation. The candidate later had to explain this code live, so writing it cleanly mattered more than speed.
Superday: Two 25-minute interviews. Each mixed basic behavioral questions with the interviewer walking through the candidate’s CodeVue answer and asking why it was written that way.
Takeaways
- Keep a copy of your CodeVue approach in your head; the Superday reviews it.
- Attend the information session if PNC offers one before your Superday.
- Expect 3 to 4 weeks between the HireVue and the Superday invite.
Experience 2: Software engineer, United States, July 2026
Profile: Experienced engineer applying to a software engineer role.
Process: Recorded interview, recruiter follow-up, a call, then a hiring manager interview with basic technical and behavioral questions, then a final session with managers.
Result: No offer. The candidate thought they had answered well and described the ending as anticlimactic because communication slowed.
Takeaways
- PNC’s experienced-hire loops weigh conversation more than coding; Interview Query’s guide also describes a mostly conversational loop ending with a one-hour hiring manager round.
- Follow up politely after 7 to 10 days if you hear nothing.
Experience 3: Teller, branch interview
Profile: Retail or food service background, no banking experience.
Phone call: Recruiter or teller supervisor asks about previous jobs, why you left and availability.
Branch interview: The branch manager, sometimes with a senior teller, asks about cash handling, an angry customer at your last job, why PNC, and how you would handle a stressful rush. Some managers describe their branch and what they want in a hire.
Takeaways
- Have a cash handling example with a dollar amount.
- Teller postings ask for no degree and no experience, so customer service stories from any job count.

PNC interview tips from these reports
HireVue
- A September 2025 candidate had one attempt per question, so practice recording before you open the link.
- Expect short games for math, personality and pattern matching alongside the questions.
CodeVue and Superday
- CodeVue problems are easy string tasks; clean code matters because the Superday reviews it.
- The 2026 Superday was two 25-minute interviews, shorter than older round-robin formats.
Branch interviews
- Bring a cash handling example with a number in it.
- The branch manager asks about sales and stress as well as customer service.
