Fidelity Investments Interview Experience 2026

Fidelity candidates in 2025 describe an HR or recruiter phone screen, a hiring manager round mixing resume questions, STAR behavioral questions and a short coding problem, and a final live coding round with senior engineers on easy string or array problems and core Java. India campus candidates had an online assessment, a technical interview on projects and core subjects, and an HR round. Earlier US and Dublin loops added a recorded HireVue video interview.

The coding bar in these reports is low compared with Big Tech, and candidates were more often cut on behavioral or HR rounds, or after long waits. One 2025 senior engineer’s process took almost two months.

Fidelity interview process round by round

Round Duration What candidates reported
HR / recruiter screen 15-30 min Background, role fit, salary
HireVue (some loops) 7 questions, 3 min each in one report Recorded behavioral answers; two attempts per question in a 2017 report
Hiring manager About 1 hour Resume, STAR questions, a brief coding problem (pseudocode accepted)
Technical round About 1 hour Live coding with principal engineers; core Java
Behavioral round About 1 hour Offered after passing technical in a May 2025 report

Fidelity interview reports

These come from self-reported write-ups on Taro (jointaro.com). Each is one candidate’s account.

  • Software engineer, United States (May 2025). A one-hour technical round, then a one-hour behavioral round available only after clearing the technical. Described as straightforward compared with other companies. The Taro entry’s outcome labels conflict (offer received, declined, rated negative).
  • Senior software engineer, United States (September 2025, no offer). HR phone screen; hiring manager round with resume, STAR questions and a brief coding problem where pseudocode was fine; final live coding with two principal engineers on easy string manipulation and core Java. Almost two months in total.
  • Software engineer intern, India (May 2025, no offer). OA with coding, an algorithm explanation and CS fundamentals MCQs; a technical interview on projects with some HR-style questions; an HR round.
  • Software engineer, India campus (September 2025, no offer). Technical interview on resume topics and core subjects, then an HR round with “What do you know about Fidelity?”. Cleared technical, not HR.
  • Senior software engineer, Dublin (2020). HireVue with seven questions and three minutes each, then a Zoom call with a manager and a principal software engineer.
  • Software engineer intern, Jersey City (2018, accepted offer). HireVue behavioral interview, then a phone interview with behavioral and technical parts of about 30 minutes each.
  • Associate software engineer, Dallas (2017, accepted offer). HR phone screen, HireVue with two attempts per question, then two final interviews over Skype.

Detailed interview experiences

Experience 1: Senior software engineer, United States (September 2025)

Profile: Experienced Java engineer.

HR screen: Phone call on background and fit.

Hiring manager round: Resume questions, behavioral questions in STAR format and a short coding problem to test problem-solving. Pseudocode was accepted.

Final round: Live coding with two principal software engineers. Easy string manipulation, then core Java. The candidate used Map.getOrDefault, and an interviewer questioned whether Java supported it; another interviewer suggested Streams instead of a loop.

Result: No offer after almost two months; rated negative.

Takeaways

  • What decided it: Not stated. The coding was easy, so communication and fit likely weighed heavily.
  • Common fail: Assuming an easy round means little preparation; be ready to defend API choices calmly and offer alternatives.
  • How to practice: Solve easy string problems two ways (loop and Streams) and explain the trade-off.

Experience 2: Software engineer, United States (May 2025)

Profile: Software engineer candidate.

Rounds: A one-hour technical interview; after passing it, a one-hour behavioral interview.

Takeaways

  • What decided it: Passing the technical first, since the behavioral round was gated on it.
  • How to practice: Prepare six STAR stories so the second hour is as strong as the first.

Experience 3: Software engineer intern, India (May 2025)

Profile: Indian student applying for an internship.

Online assessment: Coding, an explanation of the algorithm used, and MCQs on core CS topics.

Technical interview: Explain one of your projects; which CS domain interests you most; some HR-style questions.

HR round: Final round. No offer, rated neutral.

Takeaway: Know one project in depth and have a clear answer on which domain you want to work in.

Experience 4: Software engineer, India campus (September 2025)

Profile: Campus hire.

What happened: A technical interview with simple questions from resume topics and core subjects, which the candidate cleared, then an HR round including “What do you know about Fidelity?”, which they did not clear.

Takeaway: Research Fidelity before HR: privately held since 1946, Boston-based, more than 80,000 associates, brokerage, retirement and workplace benefits.

Experience 5: HireVue loops (2017-2020)

Profiles: A Dallas associate software engineer (2017, offer), a Jersey City software intern (2018, offer) and a Dublin senior engineer (2020).

What happened: All three had a recorded HireVue interview early. The Dallas candidate got two attempts per question, and the one question they listed was “What is OOP?”. The Jersey City intern was asked how they handle a heavy workload, then in a phone round to explain agile methodology and polymorphism. The Dublin engineer had seven questions with three minutes each, then a Zoom call with a manager and a principal engineer.

Takeaway: If your invitation includes HireVue, rehearse two-minute STAR answers on camera, and review OOP basics for the call that follows.

Customer-facing roles: what reviews describe

Recent public reports for Fidelity’s financial representative and customer service roles are scarce. Older Glassdoor reviews describe a two-on-one interview with two hiring managers that was mostly behavioral, a reasoning or logic test that reviewers believed predicts Series 7 performance, and a structured training program after hire in which Fidelity sponsors the Series 7 and 63 exams. Confirm the current steps with your recruiter, since these reviews are several years old.
