Costco warehouse interviews are behavioral, and they test reliability, how you treat members, how you get along with coworkers and whether you can keep a steady pace when work changes. The questions reported most in 2025-26 are why did you choose Costco, tell me about a time you worked with a difficult coworker, what urgent problem did you face and what was the result, how do you deal with sudden changes in workflow, what would you do when dealing with a member, what do you do under pressure, and whether an early stocking shift is okay.
The Costco hiring process page covers the rounds and pay ranges, and Costco interview experiences has the individual reports.
What Costco interviewers look for
Costco’s careers site says it has operated under “the guiding principle of doing the right thing - for our members, our employees, our suppliers, our communities and the environment,” and that it selects candidates “based on transferable skills, prior experience and member service skills.” Postings for entry-level roles describe greeting members, keeping lines moving, following safety procedures, keeping areas clean and “open availability.” Use examples that show those behaviors.
Costco interview questions with sample answers
1. Tell me about yourself
Sample answer: “I’ve worked two years at a grocery store, first bagging and then on register. I’m the person who gets asked to cover early shifts because I’m never late. I’m looking for a long-term job where I can move up.”
2. Why do you want to work at Costco?
Sample answer: “I’ve been a member for years and the warehouse runs well even when it’s packed. I want a place where people stay and get promoted; I read that most of your general managers started in the warehouses.” (Member service; long-term fit.)
3. Tell me about a time you worked with a difficult coworker
STAR sample: “Situation: A coworker kept leaving the register area messy at shift change. Task: Fix it without a fight. Action: I asked him privately if we could both do a two-minute reset before handing over, and offered to start. Result: He started doing it too, and our manager stopped getting complaints from the next shift.”
4. What was an urgent problem you had to face, and what was the result?
STAR sample: “Situation: A freezer case failed during a Saturday rush. Task: Save the product. Action: I told the manager, then moved items to the back freezer with two coworkers while another put up a sign. Result: We lost almost nothing and the case was fixed by Monday.”
5. How would you assess your ability to deal with sudden changes in workflow?
Sample answer: “Good. When a truck came early at my last job, my manager pulled me off the floor to unload. I asked what was most urgent, finished that first and went back to my section after.” Asked of a 2025 Front End Assistant candidate.
6. What would you do when dealing with an upset member?
Sample answer: “Listen and apologize first, fix what I’m allowed to fix, and get a supervisor for anything outside my role. Members pay to shop here, so they should leave happy.” Asked in a Fairfield, California interview.
7. What do you do when under pressure?
Sample answer: “I slow down enough to be accurate. On busy register days I focus on one member at a time and ask for a runner when the line gets long.” Asked of a kitchen staff candidate in March 2025.
8. Is a 4 a.m. shift okay, and can you keep a steady pace all day?
Framework: Give a straight yes or no with your real limits. Costco stocks early in the morning, and a 2025 morning stocker was asked both parts.
9. What is your best quality, and one of your flaws?
Sample answer: “My best quality is reliability; I haven’t missed a shift in two years. A flaw is that I sometimes try to finish everything myself, so I’ve learned to ask for help earlier.” Asked of a 2025 morning stocker.
10. What would you do if you saw a coworker not following safety protocols?
Sample answer: “Say something right away if someone could get hurt, like stacking pallets too high, and tell a supervisor if it continues.” Listed in The Interview Guys’ Costco guide.
11. How would you handle a busy day with long lines?
Sample answer: “Keep my own station moving, call for another register or runner early, and stay friendly; a long line goes faster when people are greeted.”
12. What if a member wanted to return an item without a receipt?
Sample answer: “I’d look the purchase up through their membership if I’m trained to, and otherwise bring in the supervisor so the member isn’t sent away.” Listed in The Interview Guys’ guide.
13. Describe a time you went above and beyond for a customer
STAR sample: “Situation: An older customer couldn’t lift a case of water into her car. Task: Help without holding up the line. Action: I asked a coworker to cover for two minutes and loaded it for her. Result: She wrote a note to the manager.”
