A Chipotle crew member interview is a short behavioral conversation with the general manager that tests your availability, attitude with customers, comfort in a fast kitchen and reasons for choosing Chipotle. The questions asked most in 2026 reports are tell me about yourself, why Chipotle, what do you know about Chipotle, what food-related experience do you have, how do you work under stress, what would you do if a customer was really upset, and which days you can work.
The Chipotle hiring process page explains Ava Cado and pay, and Chipotle interview experiences has the reports behind these questions.
What Chipotle managers look for
Chipotle crew postings list six traits: team player, personable, responsible, communicator, ambitious and enthusiastic. They ask for “a friendly, enthusiastic attitude,” “passion for helping and serving others (both customers and team members)” and a “desire to learn how to cook (a lot).” Chipotle’s values page adds three ideas that show up in interviews: “the line is the moment of truth,” “teach and taste Chipotle,” and “authenticity lives here.” Its purpose is “to cultivate a better world.”
Chipotle job interview questions with sample answers
1. Tell me about yourself
Sample answer: “I’m 17 and a senior at Lincoln High. I’ve worked the concession stand at football games for two seasons, so I’m used to long lines. I’m looking for a job where I can learn to cook and work weekends and two weeknights.”
2. Why do you want to work at Chipotle?
Sample answer: “I want to learn real cooking, and Chipotle preps everything by hand here. I also like that most managers started as crew, so there’s a path if I do well.” (Teach and taste Chipotle; ambitious.)
3. What do you know about Chipotle?
Sample answer: “You make everything fresh in the restaurant, with no freezers or microwaves, and crew rotate through grill, prep, salsa, cashier and expo. My order is a chicken bowl with the hot salsa.” A 2026 hire was asked “what’s Chipotle?” in a 15-minute interview.
4. What food-related experience do you have?
Sample answer: “At the concession stand I handled food, kept the area clean and followed the rules on gloves and temperatures. I haven’t cooked on a grill, but I learn fast.” Asked of a 2026 crew hire.
5. What is your availability?
Framework: Read your days and hours from a list. A Manhattan Beach, California candidate was asked which days of the week they could work.
6. How do you work in a stressful environment?
STAR sample: “Situation: Homecoming night, our stand had a line of 40 people. Task: Keep it moving. Action: I took orders while two friends filled them, and I restocked cups whenever the line paused. Result: We never ran out of anything and cleared the line by halftime.”
7. What would you do if a customer was really upset?
Sample answer: “Listen first, apologize, and fix what I can, like remaking the bowl. If it’s something I can’t fix, I’d get the manager right away.” (Personable; the line is the moment of truth.)
8. Tell me about a time you worked well on a team
STAR sample: “Situation: A group project where one teammate got sick. Task: Finish on time. Action: I split his part between the three of us and set a check-in the night before. Result: We turned it in on time and got an A-minus.” (Team player.)
9. How do you make sure you are reliable?
Sample answer: “I set two alarms, plan my ride the night before, and if I’m ever going to be late I call before my shift, not after.” A 2026 report included a question on transportation. (Responsible.)
10. Tell me about a time you learned something new quickly
Sample answer: “I learned the register at the stand in one shift by asking the senior volunteer to watch me for the first hour.” (Ambitious; desire to learn.)
11. Where do you see yourself in a year?
Sample answer: “Trained on every station and maybe on the path to kitchen leader.” Chipotle says 80% of its leaders started as crew.
12. Do you have any questions for us?
Good questions: “Which station do new crew start on?” and “How is the schedule built each week?” A 2026 reviewer noted managers make the schedule, so knowing how is useful.
