Walmart Interview Experiences

How Walmart fresher interviews usually run, campus and off-campus. Patterns shift by year and role, so treat this as a prep map, not a script.

Walmart placement process includes: 1. Online Assessment (90 minutes) - Coding/aptitude questions. 2. Technical Interview Round 1 (60 minutes) - Technical concepts. 3. Technical Interview Round 2 (60 minutes) - Advanced concepts and projects. 4. HR Interview (30 minutes) - Motivation and company fit. Total duration: 2-3 weeks from application to offer.

Eligibility (from student reports): 7.0+ CGPA or 70%.

Fresher package ballpark (from student reports): ₹15-25 LPA. Confirm on your offer letter.

Round Duration What they test
Online Assessment 90 min 2-3 coding problems
Technical Round 1 45-60 min DSA + project discussion
Technical Round 2 45-60 min System design (orders / logistics)
HR 20-30 min Behavioural + culture fit

Consolidated from public write-ups of Walmart Global Tech India SDE and SDE-intern hiring (on-campus and off-campus, 2021 through 2024). Fresher-level accounts are fewer than for the IT-services firms, and a lot of what circulates is SDE-2/SDE-3 material — the notes below stick to what entry-level candidates actually described.

Screening round (~90 minutes). The pattern that repeats in fresher accounts is a combined MCQ + coding screen rather than pure DSA:

  • Around 25 MCQs on data structures and CS fundamentals, paced at roughly a minute each.
  • Two coding problems in the same window.
  • Reports say the combined score decides the shortlist, so people who skipped the MCQ half to buy coding time did not do well. Budget the time before you start.

Technical round 1 (~45-50 minutes). Described as breadth-first and fast: one candidate reports being taken through four DSA problems coded in a shared IDE — array manipulation, a binary-array question, string comparison and a linked-list task — plus an SQL query and a small JavaScript coding ask. The volume matters more than the difficulty; these are not hard problems, but there is no time to stall.

Technical round 2 (~45-50 minutes). Split between more DSA (string transformation problems come up) and concept discussion — Java fundamentals, polymorphism, and where frontend and backend responsibilities sit. Interviewers are reported to want brute force first, then the optimisation, narrated aloud.

Hiring manager round (~45 minutes). Consistently described as non-technical or lightly technical: final-year project, extracurriculars, hypotheticals, which technologies you prefer and why, and why Walmart. One 2024 account ends with an SDE offer for the Chennai office.

What the accounts suggest actually matters

  • Do not neglect CS-fundamentals MCQs — at Walmart they are scored, not a warm-up.
  • Expect SQL and some web/JS, not only DSA. Several fresher reports include both.
  • Talk through brute force before optimising; multiple write-ups say the approach narration is being graded.
  • The manager round is about fit and motivation. Have a real answer for “why Walmart” beyond scale.

Reports vary by campus, year, and role. If your college placement email says something different, follow that.

  1. Top-K frequent elements. Usually expects heap / bucket sort
  2. Shortest path in a grid. Usually expects BFS
  3. Merge overlapping delivery slots. Usually expects interval merge
  4. Discussion on inventory and cart/checkout, bottlenecks, failure modes, simple APIs
  5. Detailed project discussion, architecture, hardest bug, what you would change
  1. Why this product?
  2. Working with unclear requirements
  3. On-call or weekend comfort
  4. Relocation
  • Clear the screening round first. Timed practice beats last-minute topic hopping.
  • For domain questions, explain inventory in plain language, inputs, outputs, what breaks at scale.
  • OOPs and SQL still open a lot of Walmart panels. Do not skip fundamentals.
  • HR answers should be concrete. One story with a result beats five slogans.
  • If you do not know something, say so and outline how you would find out.

After technical rounds, Walmart usually closes with a short HR / hiring-manager conversation: motivation, location, notice period, and a couple of behavioural stories. Prepare those answers on the dedicated page rather than cramming them into this hub.
