Tata Motors Interview Experiences

These Tata Motors interview notes are rewritten from public student posts and prep-site summaries. Your panel can still look different.

Usual flow: Written / online test → Technical interview → HR

OEM GET hiring separate from TAS leadership campus process.

Core auto/mechanical/electrical as per role.

Fit + location.

  • The online test is sectional with individual cut-offs, and that catches people out. Candidates describe a multi-section screen - psychometric, quantitative aptitude, English, technical, and a workplace-competency section - each running roughly 20-25 minutes at about a question a minute, with a separate cut-off per section. Being strong in aptitude does not save you if you skip the technical or competency section. Some drives are proctored by a third party such as Aspiring Minds.
  • The technical interview is theory-heavy on your branch, not trick-question heavy. Mechanical and automotive candidates report a run through theory of machines and automobile subjects: threads and fasteners, thermodynamics, manufacturing processes, gears, steering systems, torque and vibration basics, CV joints, valve-train and combustion fundamentals. Electronics candidates report circuits, semiconductor basics, and transformers instead. It is fundamentals-level material asked in breadth rather than depth.
  • Technical and HR blur together, and your project carries the round. Multiple write-ups describe interviews that open with HR-style questions - introduce yourself, why Tata Motors, name some of our products - before turning technical, with the heaviest weight on the final-year project or summer internship. Everything on your CV is fair game; candidates who could not defend a line on their own resume reported that going badly.
  • It is short and comparatively relaxed. Reported interview slots are often only 10-20 minutes, results tend to land within about a week, and Glassdoor-aggregated candidate sentiment sits around 80-88% positive with a below-average difficulty rating (roughly 2.8/5). The HR close leans on pressure handling, feedback, plant/location willingness, and cross-functional teamwork.

These notes come from public reports and can differ by campus, year, and role. If your college placement email or the official careers/notification PDF says something different, follow that.

After technical rounds, Tata Motors usually closes with a short HR / hiring-manager conversation: motivation, location, notice period, and a couple of behavioural stories. Prepare those answers on the dedicated page rather than cramming them into this hub.
