SBI Interview Experiences

These SBI interview notes are rewritten from public student posts and prep-site summaries. Your panel can still look different.

Usual flow: Online exam / CBT as per notification → Interview / GD as notified → Document / medical as applicable

Public-sector bank recruitment - official ad is the only reliable pattern source.

Banking awareness + role knowledge; specialist officers differ.

Interview as per notification weightage.

  • As a fresher, the PO/Clerk exam route is almost certainly your route. The Specialist Cadre Officer (SCO) track that covers most SBI IT postings looks tempting because it skips the written exam entirely - shortlisting is on qualification and experience, and a single 100-mark interview decides selection. But recent SCO notifications typically demand several years of post-qualification experience (commonly 4+, and up to 18 for senior grades), so freshers are usually not eligible. Check the eligibility table in the notification PDF before you build a prep plan around it.
  • The interview panel is bigger than most candidates expect, and short. Write-ups describe facing 4-5 panel members - bank officers plus a psychologist - for roughly 15-20 minutes, with candidates called in batches of about 5-10 across a day. The Group Exercise seats 8-12 candidates in a semicircle with two or three observers scoring from outside the group.
  • Current affairs and banking awareness get probed hard, not politely. Reported questions cluster around the day’s headlines and what they actually mean, Budget features and types of GDP, who the RBI Governor is, classification of the banking sector, SBI’s digital-banking initiatives, and cryptocurrency. Candidates who could name a headline but not explain it reported that landing badly.
  • The personal half is about coherence, not polish. Common threads: why banking when your degree is in engineering, education or career gaps, family background and occupation, hobbies, state- and region-specific questions, what qualities a PO needs, and how you would handle a difficult customer. Candidates consistently report that panels reward authenticity and admitting what you do not know over an over-rehearsed answer. The cycle is long - Prelims to interview typically spans several months.

These notes come from public reports and can differ by campus, year, and role. If your college placement email or the official careers/notification PDF says something different, follow that.

After technical rounds, SBI usually closes with a short HR / hiring-manager conversation: motivation, location, notice period, and a couple of behavioural stories. Prepare those answers on the dedicated page rather than cramming them into this hub.
