Citi Interview Experiences

These Citi interview notes are rewritten from public student posts and prep-site summaries. Your panel can still look different.

Usual flow: Online tests (aptitude/coding by track) → Technical / case-style interviews → HR

Multi-track bank hiring - pattern is role type specific.

Track-dependent: coding/CS or finance/markets reasoning.

Behavioral + banking values.

  • The online test is the real filter, and the platform varies. Candidates report it running on AMCAT/SHL in some years and HackerEarth in others. A 2023 PBWM Technology Analyst drive described a four-section SHL paper (verbal/English, quantitative, computer programming MCQs, then 2 coding problems in 45 minutes - one array-filtering, one frequency-based sorting). Older AMCAT-format reports describe a two-hour, four-section test where each section is separately timed, you cannot go back to a previous question, and there is no negative marking. Plan your pacing around that: you get one pass per question.
  • Shortlist rates are steep, and the funnel narrows again at the offer stage. One on-campus drive shortlisted roughly 20 candidates for interviews with about 10 more waitlisted, and only a handful of CS-branch students got offers. Clearing the test is not the same as being close to an offer.
  • Interviews lean discussion-heavy, not whiteboard-grind. Multiple reports describe a single ~35-minute “techno-HR” round over Zoom with two panel members: introduction, internship walkthrough, DBMS questions, then a genuinely detailed project probe - why Firebase over MongoDB, why that schema, what you’d change. One candidate was asked directly how comfortable they were reading and maintaining legacy code, which fits a bank’s reality more than a startup’s.
  • Fundamentals over trivia, and results move fast. The recurring advice across write-ups is to be solid on OOPs and DSA basics (sorting stability and complexity, pointers, arrays/stacks/queues/linked lists/trees) rather than chasing hard problems. Eligibility is commonly 6+ CGPA across all semesters with no active backlogs, open to all branches, and results are usually declared within about a week of the final round.

These notes come from public reports and can differ by campus, year, and role. If your college placement email or the official careers/notification PDF says something different, follow that.

After technical rounds, Citi usually closes with a short HR / hiring-manager conversation: motivation, location, notice period, and a couple of behavioural stories. Prepare those answers on the dedicated page rather than cramming them into this hub.
