BPCL Interview Experiences
Overview
Section titled “Overview”These BPCL interview notes are rewritten from public student posts and prep-site summaries. Your panel can still look different.
Usual flow: GATE score shortlist (or a written test on pool-campus drives) → case-study Group Discussion → Technical panel → HR panel → Medical
Oil PSU - the official recruitment notice is the authority on which route your drive uses.

What students reported
Section titled “What students reported”- The GD is a case study, not a debate topic, and it eliminates. Candidate reports on the GATE-based Management Trainee route describe groups of roughly 12-14, about 5 minutes to read a printed case and 10-12 minutes of discussion. A recurring case: a four-person project team where two members stop contributing - one the son of a managing director, one a middle-class employee - and the group has to work out how to handle it. It is a knockout stage, so being audible and structured matters more than being clever.
- Interviews are panel-heavy and split technical from HR. Reports mention a technical panel of around five people for 15-20 minutes on core subjects (refinery and power-plant fundamentals for mechanical candidates), then a separate HR panel of about two for another 15 minutes on projects, subjects, and hobbies. A commonly reported HR probe for mechanical candidates: how would you work in marketing with a mechanical background - BPCL posts many MTs into Marketing/Operations, so this is a real fit question, not a trick.
- There is a separate pool-campus IT/systems route that looks nothing like the GATE one. A GeeksforGeeks pool-placement write-up describes five stages: CGPA-based resume screening, a written test of 25 MCQs plus 10 subjective questions on computer networks, OS, DBMS, network security and web services, the same style of case-study GD, a six-member technical panel (DB indexing and its types, superuser, deadlock, paging, cloud, network security, blockchain, AI/ML applied to petroleum), and a two-member HR panel. If your drive is a campus/pool one rather than a GATE shortlist, prepare CS core, not GATE mechanical.
- Expect “will you still want this in 20 years” style questions. Both routes report longevity and commitment probes - where do you see yourself in five years, what if the work stays narrow for two decades - alongside relocation to refinery and plant locations. Answer these concretely; hedging reads worse than an honest constraint.

Section titled “HR interview”After technical rounds, BPCL usually closes with a short HR / hiring-manager conversation: motivation, location, notice period, and a couple of behavioural stories. Prepare those answers on the dedicated page rather than cramming them into this hub.
