BlackRock Interview Experiences
Overview
Section titled “Overview”These BlackRock interview notes are rewritten from public student posts and prep-site summaries. Your panel can still look different.
Usual flow: Online assessment → Technical interviews → HR
Asset-manager tech harder than services hiring.

What students reported
Section titled “What students reported”- The online test is the real filter, and it’s broader than pure DSA. A 2023 on-campus write-up (VIT Vellore, ~4,000 applicants, ~1,000 sat the test) describes sectionally timed rounds with no backtracking covering aptitude, reasoning, verbal, flowcharts, and SQL. Individual questions were rated easy-to-medium, but the flowchart section caught people out - you pick the option that makes a given step execute correctly, which is not something most DSA prep covers. A common CGPA gate of 8.0 for CS/IT/Electrical was reported on that drive.
- The technical round is two interviewers and a wide sweep, not one long problem. The same account reports roughly 30-60 minutes covering: projects and background, Python fundamentals (slicing), two DSA problems (median of sorted arrays, cycle detection in a linked list), a SQL question needing joins plus a subquery, and then Java/CS-fundamentals territory from the second interviewer -
volatile, Set implementations, DFS/BFS time and space complexity, lookup costs of different data structures, thread synchronisation, and the string pool. - HR is short and location is a genuine question. Reports put the HR round at roughly 10-15 minutes: introduce yourself, why BlackRock, extracurriculars, future plans, and specifically whether you’re willing to relocate - candidates on Gurugram-campus drives were asked how they’d manage living there. Treat it as a real answer, not a formality.
- Funnel numbers are steep but survivable. On that 2023 drive, around 250 candidates reached interviews from the test, 50+ were waitlisted, and about 40 software offers came out. Internship-track write-ups describe the same shape (online test, ~1 hour technical panel of two on Webex, HR), with separate technology-analyst and financial-modelling tracks - the latter leaning on data science / ML.

Section titled “HR interview”After technical rounds, BlackRock usually closes with a short HR / hiring-manager conversation: motivation, location, notice period, and a couple of behavioural stories. Prepare those answers on the dedicated page rather than cramming them into this hub.
