BEL Interview Experiences
Overview
Section titled “Overview”These BEL interview notes are rewritten from public student posts and prep-site summaries. Your panel can still look different.
Usual flow: GATE score and/or CBT as per notification → Interview

What students reported
Section titled “What students reported”Public write-ups for BEL are thin compared with private-sector companies - most candidates enter via GATE score or a branch CBT, and the interview is a single short round, so there is simply less to report. The patterns that do recur:
- The written stage is effectively the selection. Candidate accounts and notification summaries agree the split is roughly 85 marks CBT / GATE against 15 marks interview, with minimum qualifying marks around 35% for General/OBC/EWS and 30% for SC/ST/PwBD. Several people describe the interview as confirmatory rather than decisive - your merit is largely set before you walk in.
- The interview is one round, mostly on your favourite subject and your project. Reports describe being asked to name a subject and then being taken into it, followed by a project discussion. For electronics candidates the questions stayed at digital / analog / EDC basics; a software trainee reported being asked about database connections and queries, and to pick a sorting algorithm for a nearly-sorted array. HR content is minimal.
- Difficulty is rated moderate and the experience is generally reported as positive. Aggregated Glassdoor ratings for the Probationary Engineer role sit near 2.8/5 on difficulty with a large majority calling the experience positive - low-pressure, technically focused panels rather than stress interviews.
- The timeline is long and administrative. BEL issues its own video-conference interview link, commonly quoted as within about 30 days of shortlisting; one write-up reports interviewing in November and receiving the offer in February. Budget for the wait, and for document verification and a pre-employment medical after selection.

Section titled “HR interview”After technical rounds, BEL usually closes with a short HR / hiring-manager conversation: motivation, location, notice period, and a couple of behavioural stories. Prepare those answers on the dedicated page rather than cramming them into this hub.
